FAQS

FAQS

1) What is the difference between Eyelash Extension Certification vs Eyelash Extension License?
An eyelash extension license is required to legally work as a lash technician in many states in the U.S.

A license is usually given by a governing body, such as the State Board of Cosmetology. Cosmetology, Esthetics, Barbering, Massage Therapy, and Nail Technician are the most common licenses in the beauty sector.

An eyelash extension certification is a qualification given by an individual or private company that can help you stand out from the competition and show your commitment to the craft. Certification will enhance your lash skills and allow you to specialize in this field.

After getting their cosmetology license, cosmetic professionals and estheticians typically take additional courses to earn a certification in lash extensions. However, certifications are not required to legally work as a lash technician in the United States.

2) What are the Eyelash Extension State Requirements?

Each state in the US has its own requirements for what type of license is needed to work as a lash technician.

So, do you need a license to do eyelash extensions?

In some states, you may need an esthetician, cosmetologist, or a license that covers lash extensions specifically. In other states, there is no specific license requirement for lash technicians.

** Please do seek confirmation from your state, since every state has different requirements.

3) HOW LONG DOES IT TAKE TO BECOME A CERTIFIED LASH TECH?

The length of time it takes to become certified depends on the program you choose.

Some certification programs can be completed in as little as 2 days, while others might take up to 2 weeks.

You could also opt for a completely online certification in which case you could take as long as you want to complete the program.

Once you have completed your certification program, you will need to take and pass the certification exam

4) HOW MUCH DOES IT COST TO BECOME A CERTIFIED LASH TECH? (F2F Classes)

Entry-level programs that focus on the fundamentals such as the classic technique only are generally less expensive. You can expect to pay anywhere from $700 to $1500.

The content of the course, the reputation of the institution, the instructor, and the starting kit included in the course fee all affect the overall cost.

As your experience and skills grow, you might want to consider advanced programs that focus on special techniques.

These advanced courses that might focus on volume lashes or the mega volume technique are more focused and generally more expensive.

As a lash artist, you can charge more for a volume set than a classic set therefore investing in learning these advanced techniques could be worth the investment.

You can expect to pay anywhere from $1000 to $3000 for an advanced course.

5) WHAT DO I NEED TO BRING TO MY EYELASH EXTENSION CERTIFICATION COURSE?

All you need to bring to your certification course is a positive attitude and a willingness to learn.

Some courses might require you to bring your own model, but this will be specified in the course description.

Other than that, everything you need for the course will be provided to you by the institution.

6) CAN YOU TEACH YOURSELF TO DO EYELASH CERTIFICATION?

While it is possible to teach yourself how to apply lash extensions, it is not recommended.

Lash artists need to have a strong understanding of the anatomy of the eye and the proper application techniques to provide a safe and professional service.

Additionally, lash artists need to be certified to be insured. This means that if something were to go wrong during the lash application, the client and the artist would be covered.

7) HOW CAN I ENSURE THAT I’M WORKING WITH A CERTIFIED/LICENSED LASH TECH?

The best way to ensure that you are working with a certified lash tech is to ask to see their certification.

Certified lash artists should be able to provide you with their certificate as well as the name and contact information of the institution where they were certified.

If you are unsure about the credibility of a lash artist, you can always ask around for recommendations or look for reviews online.

Certified lash artists should also be able to provide you with important such as:

  • Before and after photos of their work. Certified lash artists will usually have a portfolio that they can show you upon request.
  • A list of the products they use and where you can purchase them.
  • References upon request.
  • A list of the lash extension courses they have taken.
  • A list of the lash competitions they have participated in.

Most of this information should already be available on the artist’s website or social media, but if you can’t find it, don’t hesitate to ask.
